Hope Church Newham launched on Sunday 7th February 2010 at the Sarah Bonnell School in Stratford. However, there had been much that God had been doing over the years to get to this moment.
Many of the team who were involved in planting Hope Church, came from Church for the City, east London, a Newfrontiers Church which met in Tower Hamlets. For many years Church for the City had small groups meeting in Newham – in East Ham, West Ham and Stratford.
In 2003, a Kids Klub, run by Church for the City, started in West Ham, this proved to be a successful and fruitful outreach to the area and resulted in many kids becoming Christians, families impacted by the gospel, good friendships developed and links with the church made. Over the years, many of the kids have continued to be involved in the church and have attended Newday (a Christian youth event) during the summer.
There had been Alpha courses, art classes and other outreach events over a period of a few years with the realisation that one day there would be a Newfrontiers church in Newham.
Newfrontiers is committed to planting churches across the nation and in 2009 had a particular focus on London and the need for more churches in the capital city.
At this time, after spending many years living in Newham, Mark & Jen Waterfield, heard God speak to them about planting a church in Newham. This was confirmed by the calling of other people from outside of London to come specifically to Newham to be part of the church plant, and the full support of the Newfrontiers London team.
A group started meeting in Newham mid-week in September 2009 and spent much time together socially which led to our launch Sunday in February 2010.
