20 years old, a hipster beard, a wonderful tan and the swag to boot. I was in my element. Having just spent a year down under I thought I was the best thing since sliced bread and pretty full of it. Arriving in the big smoke was just the icing on the cake, I was young, free and single, not a care in the world and everything ahead of me. If you had asked me are you satisfied, I could guarantee you I would say yes…BUT, there was something missing. I had all any young man would want but there was a little bit inside me yearning for more although I couldn’t put my finger on it.
If you had asked me are you satisfied, I could guarantee you I would say yes…
Yet fast forward 3 years, the beard is mere stubble, the tan has certainly faded and that swag I was talking about is long gone, moved on. However, if you were to ask me if I am satisfied, the response you would receive without a shadow of a doubt is that I am more so than I ever have been in my entire life. Why you may be asking? The answer is simple; JESUS.
It’s only now I realise that the 20-year-old who arrived in London 3 years ago was lost, and unknowingly very broken. I was looking for satisfaction in what the world has; money, a night out, popularity, what I was wearing. Although these may have fixed me in the very short term, it wouldn’t be long until I was in the same place again, feeling dissatisfied.
But did you know the Bible says that only Jesus satisfies? John 6:35 says “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst”. Today these words ring true, and are my foundation. I am no longer needing to search high and low for that missing piece, the longing that I could never shake is now gone. Do I forget sometimes? Of course, I do. I make mistakes every day. But God is good, and he always has a way of reminding me when I walk astray and begin looking elsewhere.
Imagine finding out that there is something that will truly satisfy you. Is that not something worth pursuing?
The good news is, anyone can have it, and boy is it good. Freedom never tasted this good, and it’s there for the taking. Why not read through a gospel, or come along to church, and experience it for yourself.
Satisfaction from this world will always be short lived, but in Jesus it is eternal.
Why not ask yourself today; “Am I satisfied?”
